Chapter 463: Evil God Festival - Boathouse
"It seems you don't want to discuss the whip with me." Seeing Spades pulling away from him, Bai Liu readily changes the subject from good naturedly as he smiles and asks, "Would you like to discuss Bai Liu with me then?"
Spades' retreating footsteps stalled, and he looked straight at Bai Liu.
"Perhaps we could sit down and talk?" Bai Liu raises his hand with a smirk, and a stool swings out from the dark depths of the stage and into the crook of Spades' knee, as Bai Liu politely makes a gesture of invitation to sit down.
Spades stares at Bai Liu and slowly sits down.
"The last time you saw me was when you won the championship last year, right?" Bai Liu walks nonchalantly behind Spades, he rests his hands casually on the back of his chair, his tone is laughed, "You told everyone on your winning team not to wish on me, to store their wishes with me."
"Very interesting approach."
Bai Liu looks down at Spades and curls the corner of his mouth, "But this is the second time we've met, remember when we first met?"
Spades was silent for a moment and spoke, "The Town of Siren."
"Yes, the first person you met after you were born out of Siren Town was me, and I bestowed my bone whip upon you." Bai Liu's eyes were compassionate as he brushed his hand across the top of Spades' head, "Do you know why?"
Spades didn't answer.
Bai Liu smiles and says, "Because you are the vessel of the creation I once held most dear."
"Do you know why you were born?"
Bai Liu slowly bent down to Spades' ear, he raised his hand, and a wall of water ripples appeared in front of Spades, ripples and waves appeared on the wall, spreading out one by one, reflecting a whole new scene.
Behind the watery wall appeared Bai Liu, a fourteen year old boy who had been locked up in the confinement room of the orphanage, he was cowering in the darkness, sleeping deeply, seemingly because of the cold, and seemingly because of something else, his eyelids trembled, his limbs curled up into a ball unconsciously, he looked like a very insecure animal, his lips gently opening and closing.
Sheta.
The little creature murmured the name softly in its sleep.
Spades stares blankly as Bai Liu explains softly, "This is fourteen year old Bai Liu."
The scene on the watery wall kept changing, and a bandaged face appeared, along with a huge, skinny ghostly doll, which raised its hands awkwardly and waved them from side to side in some laughter-inducing gesture.
"Are you sure you don't want to consider playing dolls for a living when you grow up?" A youthful, laughing voice came, and the scene shifted to show fourteen year old Bai Liu holding his cheeks in a smile that stretched his brow as he looked intently at Sheta in his eyes, "I think you're very talented in this business."
The doll didn't seem to realize that Bai Liu was mocking him, but instead asked earnestly in return, "Really?"
"And how much money can we make playing dolls? Can it support both of us?"
Bai Liu paused for a moment, he twisted his face, "I don't need you to raise me, and you can't afford it."
"Just mind your own business."
Though Bai Liu seemed to be coldly refusing, Spades saw the corners of Bai Liu's mouth turn up slightly as he turned away.
Spades had never seen Bai Liu who laughed so easily, and it silenced Spades completely, his eyes reflecting the light from the screen, his eyes glancing at the watery wall with a single misplaced glance.
The watermarked wall was like a giant TV screen, playing the events that had taken place in the orphanage along with the time.
They meet, they read together, they are punished together, they are chased together, they are hated together.
--- Together in the darkness holding each other in a peaceful slumber.
But then Sheta died.
So Bai Liu is left alone to read, alone to be punished, alone to be chased and then caught up and beaten, alone to be hated.
--- A man curled up in the darkness in a restless slumber.
While all this is going on, Sheta, the Sheta Bai Liu thought was dead, is not dead. Spades sees the translucent spirit of Sheta in the watery wall anxiously surrounding Bai Liu, pleading with him:
"You go, don't stay here."
"Don't feed me food, you'll die if you eat too little!"
Bai Liu cannot see or hear Sheta's pleas, and he continues to walk numbly in the same way he did when Sheta was still alive.
Bai Liu became more and more thin, more and more thin, lip color from light pink became whitish, became blue, the naked eye can be seen thin and emaciated.
Spades' brow slowly furrowed.
After another night of Bai Liu passing out in the cold mud next to the pond without being found, Sheta's spirit bowed down and he wrapped his soul around Bai Liu, who had passed out and curled up - just like they used to sleep together.
Sheta closed her eyes, "God."
"If you exist right now and are watching this right now, I'd like to ask you to show up."
"I would like to make a wish to you."
The wind rose up around Sheta and his soul was lifted upright, while across from him appeared a flash of old carved door, behind which were endless spheres of silvery-blue light, from which a hand poked out, took hold of the handle of the door, and pushed it outward.
The spheres shattered into points of light one after another, Bai Liu stepped his feet out of the pile of points of light and stood in front of Sheta, his eyes downcast as he looked at the spirit of Sheta kneeling in front of him, a compassionate smile on his face, "Taville, what is it that you want to wish upon me?"
Sheta knelt in front of Bai Liu's unconscious body as he tilted his head and spoke very softly:
"God, I want to give this person behind me all the happiness that any ordinary person in this world can have."
"I want him to have someone in his life for all the loneliest times, I want everything he's suffered for to dissipate, and I want everything he's lost to be found."
"I want to be able to always have someone to play his favorite scary games with."
Sheta raised his head, his silver-blue eyes filled with a very light shimmer, "I think he and the one he loves will never be separated."
"They could meet in a human way, be together in a human way, and end beautifully in a human death."
Bai Liu quirked the corners of his mouth in a smirk, "What a greedy creation, these add up to far more than one wish, what would you be willing to pay for these wishes?"
Sheta was quiet for a long time before he spoke in a very soft voice, "I would give my soul for that."
"I have a soul now, and I will become the next generation of evil gods, as you wish, and guard the door forever."
He raised his eyes to look calmly at the silver-blue swirls and spheres within the door behind Bai Liu, "I will never leave this door as long as I know that there is a world within the lines of this door where he lives happily ever after."
"-never leave the abyss, desire and pain."
"Are you sure?" Bai Liu smirked, "No matter how many times you see him happily with someone else in the future, there's no turning back."
Sheta took Bai Liu's cold hand in her own without hesitation, "I'm sure."
"Then the deal stands." Bai Liu held out his hand, and in an instant all the shimmering, glowing silver-blue vortexes behind the door tilted out from behind the door, wrapping around the tip of Bai Liu's outstretched right index finger like waves of the sea, and pointing at the center of Sheta's brow.
The silver-blue vortex rushed into Sheta's frontal center, sending his entire body reeling backward with a blank stare.
Bai Liu's disembodied and smiling voice rang in Sheta's ears:
"I grant you the desire to change the world line, and you may pull into this place anyone from all the world lines that you feel can change Bai Liu's destiny, and give Bai Liu friends and loved ones in any way you see fit."
"But Bai Liu is too young now to have any idea of love, and when the time is right, I will bring the person he loves to him in the way you wished."
"But." Bai Liu said with a slight smile, "Now you have a soul, but it's not painful."
"In order for you to successfully become an Evil God at the end of this worldline's game, Taville, I will have to give you some other painful experiences." Bai Liu's eyes strayed to the sleeping little Bai Liu behind Sheta with a furrowed brow, and the smirk on his face deepened, "If you are unable to provide me with a satisfactory amount of pain when the time comes, I may choose another, more pained child to be my heir."
"If you don't want to see that, work hard to become more miserable."
Silver-blue swirls rolled by and little Bai Liu woke up with a choking cough; he looked around at the empty pond and then at his right hand, which he clenched in a dazed manner.
For a moment just now, it was as if Sheta was still alive, holding his hand hard, not wanting to leave.
Spades, who was looking at the watery wall, seemed to notice something; his face, livid as never before, breathed an emotional resistance, and inclined his head, "I don't want to look at it."
The watery wall deflected with Spades' eyes and returned to Spades' front, no matter how much Spades resisted turning his head away, it was still facing him, and getting closer and closer.
Spades simply closed his eyes, his hand clutching the whip.
Bai Liu laughed softly and snapped his fingers as he spoke as if understandingly, "If you don't want to watch, I can explain to you what happened next."
"Because Taville made a wish at the cost of his soul, Bai Liu gained friends, loved ones of his own, and he became one of the happy and ordinary vulgar commoners of this world."
"Instead, Taville was exiled from my game and slaughtered and tortured by all the players."
"But sadly, even then he wasn't in pain, he was only in pain because of Bai Liu, so I lured Bai Liu into the game, and a year before Bai Liu entered the game, in order to fulfill Taville's wish to meet and fall in love with Bai Liu in a human way-- -"
Spades interrupted coldly, "I can't hear you."
"His □□ is you, Spades."
"You were born because of Taville and Bai Liu's obsessive love for each other, but in all honesty, I made you for one purpose-"
Bai Liu laughs, "That's what makes Bai Liu and Taville miserable."
"Your birth means the demise of the soul Bai Liu truly loved, Taville."
"The first time you met Bai Liu, you pulled what was left of Taville's heart out of Bai Liu's body and crushed it, and the second time you met Bai Liu, you forced him to accept the heirship to the Evil God that I had given him because that was what would save Sheta."
Spades' eyes snapped open and he swept his black whip across the room, Bai Liu shifted back to avoid it, and countless watery wall screens wrapped around Spades, all of which were projecting scenes of him hurting Bai Liu.
Bai Liu was lying on the hospital bed with a pale face, and Du Sanying beside him cried and said to the doctor, "How could his heart be cut open?!"
Bai Liu, at the last second of being drowned by the pond of The Dense Forest Borderland, with a smile in her eyes, and as if filled with a layer of watery light, said to him very softly, "I've missed you, Sheta."
Bai Liu's voice comes from behind these numerous watery wall screens with a smile:
"Your very existence means that you will bring constant harm to Bai Liu and cause him constant pain."
"You have done an excellent job of the task I gave you, but what surprises and amazes me even more is-"
Bai Liu let out a soft laugh, he suddenly pierced through the numerous walls of water ripples and held down Spades in the center on the chair, dropping his eyes to look at Spades who was ready to fight back, his face stern, Bai Liu wore a kind of pitying smile on his face:
"You actually produced your own soul under Bai Liu's loving gaze."
"Though the affection is not for you, but only through you, looking at Taville."
The moment Spades raised his hand to swing his whip, a sudden burning, excruciating pain shot through his backside, causing him to drop the whip in his hand.
--That's a wound from some soul-crushing bullet earlier that hurts every now and then.
But this pain is so strange today.
Spades Since his birth, he has felt all kinds of [pain], but he has never felt this kind of [pain], this kind of [pain] is not that kind of very sharp stabbing pain, it is not like being cut by a knife, being cleaved by a sword, but it is like there is something that starts to burn from inside his body, so that his heart starts to be sour, the movement of his limbs starts to be sluggish, and even his eyes start to become to flow out of the water.
This kind of [pain] is obviously not so [painful], but it makes him feel ...... like he can t win no matter what else.
But can't win what? It doesn't seem like you can't win the game ......
Spades is a little confused.
A transparent thread flies from a distance and is tied around Spades' right wrist.
Bai Liu smiled, "You also possessed a soul and produced pain, and in a way, you qualify to be my heir as well."
"But guess who Bai Liu will choose to be his beloved, and who he will abandon to become the lone heir to an evil god?"
Spades finally looked up in realization, a drop of water running senselessly out of the corner of his eye and landing in the watery wall that projected Bai Liu and Sheta's past.
Oh, it's this one.
The one thing he just felt like he couldn't win any way was this.
