Chapter 297: Dense Forest Borderland
As the first Guy raised his gun to fire at them, Tang Er stopped one of them with his hand and shouted, "Bend down and run!"
"There is no need." Bai Liu looked toward the end of the mist, "The space here has been sealed since we came in, and now it's all sealed, we can't run out."
Tang Er fought to follow Bai Liu's line of sight and looked over, his expression frozen.
At the end of the mist, a signpost peeped out, a fresh gunshot hole on the signpost, just opened by Tang Er, next to the signpost stood two large and three small figures, which were clearly themselves.
"Looks like we have to decrypt it to get out of here." Bai Liu turns to these approaching zombie brides, "Tang Er fight, you hang in there for a while."
Tang Er swept away the guns of the two zombie brides, grabbed the gun of the third zombie bride and turned it around to fire two shots into each other's mouths, splattering blood on his face, then turned his head to ask Bai Liu behind him, "Where is the puzzle here?"
Bai Liu pointed to the street sign next to him, "This is it."
"What mystery could this be?" Tang Er asked suspiciously as he broke a Guy's neck and wiped away the plasma that had erupted on his own face.
Bai Liu's eyes stop at the road sign, which has eight signposts, pointing to the Recruit Garrison, the Tavern, the Training Camp, the Town Exit, the Enrollment Office, the Train Station, the Battlefield Direction and the Cemetery.
Liu Jiayi quickly scanned through the signposts, "The hint is the address, but no matter which way you go, it will circle back to the original place, it should conform to some kind of special traveling route in order to go out."
"But with eight pointers, there are too many routes that can be combined." Liu Jiayi wrinkled his brows and looked at Bai Liu, "Do you have any clues that can be used as hints?"
Bai Liu glanced at Guy who was tangling with Tang Er, "Didn't you give us the clue?"
Liu Jiayi turned his head sharply to look at these Guy: "These Guy are zombies, they are buried corpses, they came from the cemetery!"
"Yes, this group of Guy came from the cemetery and passed through this ghostly barrier." Bai Liu's eyes returned to the road sign, "Since this group of Guy who is already a zombie can pass through this barrier, it means that this traveling route is a route he is very familiar with and can subconsciously walk out of even after he dies and becomes a zombie."
Liu Jiayi had been staying at the Red Cross and wasn't familiar with Guy as an NPC, so after hearing Bai Liu analyze it like this, he simply said, "I don't know anything about this, I'm going to help Tang Er fight it, so you hurry up and solve it."
After saying that, Liu Jiayi rushed to Tang Er's side with two bottles of antidote, and kicked away a gun swung from his back.
The gun barrel goes off and Bai Liu dodges it, but his eyes are glued to the sign.
If the seven days of the war were a cycle, these dead Guy's would have remembered the path they traveled here in life, and on the second day Guy defected, so it would have been the path Guy traveled on the first day.
And Guy was with him the whole time that day.
They met Guy at- Bai Liu moved his eyes to the first signpost, "The first one is the direction of the battlefield."
Tang Er hit had already collected all the monsters' guns, he lifted Liu Jiayi's shoulders with both hands and ran two steps towards the battlefield, turning back and hissing, "And then what? Bai Liu, these zombies are getting more and more numerous, hurry up!"
Bai Liu fluently reported the next addresses, "The second place is the train station, the third is the enrollment office, the fourth is the recruit garrison, the fifth is the tavern, and the sixth is the training camp."
Tang Er asked urgently, "What about the seventh and eighth!"
Bai Liu's eyes swept back and forth twice between [Town Exit] and [Cemetery]; he hadn't been there with Guy, so he wasn't sure of the sequence.
But these are corpses, and the corpses should end up in a cemetery.
Bai Liu was only slightly quiet for a second before continuing, "The seventh is the town exit and the eighth is the cemetery."
Tang Er hit the stepping stone in the direction of the cemetery, then looked at the motionless fog behind him and looked at Bai Liu in confusion : "Why is there no reaction? Did I not go the right way just now?"
He did not doubt that Bai Liu's judgment was wrong.
Liu Jiayi ripped away Tang Er hit grabbed her hands, this person ran fast, she was shaken dizzy, did not have time to dissuade, this time was put down before breathlessly spoke: "You go the opposite way, these Guy is from the cemetery, we should go backwards from the direction of the cemetery."
Tang Er typed: "......"
Tang Er shot a stagnant and unbelieving look at Bai Liu: "But Bai Liu is reading ......."
Bai Liu smiled innocently at him, "I thought you knew it was a good guess that you should walk backwards."
Tang Er typed: "......"
"All told you Bai Liu this Ben is playing, you believe him?" Liu Jiayi flung his hand impatiently, "Let's go, stupid big guy."
Walking backwards is really easy to walk out, Bai Liu Paving the fog in front of him, there is another figure in front of him.
Tang Er hit subconsciously pull out the revolver want to this figure, the result of halfway to pull out a black whip from the fog "snap" thrown over, the speed is extremely fast, Tang Er hit did not have time to draw his hand on the back of his hand by the whip hit hard.
This familiar weapon and whiplash pain ...... Tang Er hit retrieved the skill weapon and tried, "Spades?"
Spades stepped out of the mist, his whip in his left hand, and looked askance at Tang Er Fight with a cold expression, "Didn't I tell you not to use your gun casually?"
Tang Er hit the "==" a bit without holding back.
Spades Why is such an outrageous request as not allowing someone to use their skill weapons stated in such a righteous tone.
Bai Liu lightly swept a glance at Spades : "Don't just hit my team members."
Spades gave an oh, then immediately turned to Tang Er and said, "I'm sorry."
Liu Jiayi muttered next to him in a displeased voice, "One word of apology and that's it?"
Spades gave Liu Jiayi a calm look, raised his hand and without hesitation, also gave the back of his hand a stroke with the whip and asked, "Is it over now?"
Liu Jiayi: "......"
Tang Er typed: "......"
Why would this man even bother to get so serious with an eight year old girl, or in such a childish way ......
Seeing that Spades had taken out a serious face and was going to argue with Liu Jiayi to the end and fight for the win, Bai Liu had to speak out to stop him: "Okay, what clues have you found?"
Spades then turned to Bai Liu: "I found a woman in the cemetery."
"A woman?" Bai Liu's tone rose slightly, "Who?"
Spades looks directly at Bai Liu: "Alex's former fiancée."
Spades takes Bai Liu and his group to a brand new town after passing through the fog.
A new or, less aptly and more appropriately, "all" old town.
The once lively and bustling border town had become littered with old dust, the wooden signposts were rickety and the writing on them had long since rotted and blurred, the tents stacked over at the training camp were buried under many old industrial buildings, and the racks that had held the enrollment forms at the entrance had long since rusted and been tossed aside.
The bistro was nowhere to be found.
In the place of the tavern was a long closed grocery store, the time of closure written thirty years ago.
The ground was covered with littered rolls of shredded paper, billboard plastic, and some vinyl pieces of CDs.
Bai Liu turns back and realizes that the lush, warren of rainforests on that land has disappeared, replaced by a huge factory next to a crumbling billboard that reads, [Producer of raw materials for tropical forests and logs worldwide], next to an oil-on-canvas texture of a smiling lumberjack's face.
The factory, which is called "the world's largest log production base", has a locked gate and a sign at the entrance indicating that it has long been out of business, about the same time as a grocery store closes.
Bai Liu withdrew his gaze and walked on through the ruined town.
Walking through the town's exit to a long-abandoned cemetery, Spades familiarly rolls over the rusted gate and opens it for Bai Liu from the inside.
Bai Liu walked into the cemetery.
It was an extremely old and dilapidated cemetery, the marble monuments were covered with weeds, the graveyard was very overgrown, and at a glance it looked like a backyard garden that hadn't been taken care of for more than ten years, with crosses and tombstones hidden inside the weeds.
But that's not even the weirdest part of this cemetery.
The weirdest thing about this cemetery was that Bai Liu had carefully noted the names of the dead on every cross and headstone from the time he entered the cemetery to the time he walked to the center of the cemetery.
The time of death, black and white photos, and names of the deceased on all the headstones were laid out exactly the same.
All the graves in the entire cemetery are the graves of Guy Davis.
And basically every grave was dug up, and from the ones dug up inside, you could vaguely see the bodies inside rushing out to brutally destroy the coffins, and the dirt that had been pushed out from inside the graves next to them, piled up on either side of the headstones.
Walking through this empty cemetery, straight to the very edge of the corner, Bai Liu saw there stood a grandmother holding a bouquet of flowers, her back to Bai Liu, trembling bowed down, placed a bouquet of flowers and a wedding dress on a tombstone.
"Hello." Bai Liu called to her in a soft voice, "And you are?"
She turned to me, her cloudy eyes filling with tears, "I used to be the fiancée of that Alex kid."
"But that was fifty or sixty years ago." She waved her hand, swept the dust from the headstone, propped herself up and sat down with a sigh, muttering to herself, "But now it's just an old woman cleaning his headstone."
Bai Liu half crouched down and looked the old woman flat in the eyes, "What is your name?"
"Elena, just call me Elena." The old woman looked back at Bai Liu, "And who are you, young man?"
Bai Liu said calmly, "You may not believe it, but I'm Alex's comrade-in-arms."
"War hero?" The old woman really snorted, "Young man, I think you're even more senile than I am, that war has already ended for more than fifty years, and the beautiful dream of being a war hero is also changed to a more recent war background, right?"
